November 1, 2012

Lakeland, Fla. – The R-Jay Barsh era started off with a win on Thursday night as the Fire took down Trinity College by the score of 87-53.
Both teams struggled to find a flow on the offensive end for the first few minutes of the opening half but Jordan Talley’s bucket from the paint to tie the score at four began a 14-2 run that would put the Fire up 16-6 just six minutes into the half.
The Fire extended their lead to 16 points at the 9:35 mark when Nathan Howard hit a three to put Southeastern up 29-13.
The Tigers battled back to within four at the 5:22 mark thanks to a run of their own but Southeastern once again extended the lead and went into the half up 43-28.
Led by Brandon Moore’s game high 19 points, the Fire came out of the gates in the second half and built a 30 point lead midway through the half. From there, the Fire cruised to the 87-53 win.
In addition to Moore’s 19, Povilas Gaidys and Jordan Talley each added 15 points while Patrick Ryan added nine points and 10 assists.
The Fire shot 54% from the field as team while holding the Tigers to 33% shooting including a miserable 1-19 from beyond the arch.
Men's basketball looks to build upon the win on Saturday when host Clearwater Christian College starting at 6 p.m.
