Cross Country Runs at Sand Shark Invitational
October 20, 2012
Hardeeville, S.C. – The Southeastern University women’s cross country team finished 11th out of 16 teams and the men finished 12th out of 17 teams at the Sand Shark Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
“This season our team has endured heat on really tough courses,” said Head Coach Paul Kurtz . “Today they got a chance to show me what they could do on a fast course with cool temps. They did not let me down!”
Each of the men and women ran another personal best or season best time.
Freshman Rachael Bruce was the Fire’s top runner for the second race in a row with a time of 20:45, over three minutes faster than her previous 5k best.
“Even more exciting to me is the time between our number one and number five runner was only 61 seconds. The ladies are not only running faster but they are becoming a tight pack. This is huge as we go into conference,” added Kurtz.
Freshman Kyler Kathman continued to lead the men’s team with a personal best time of 27:05 with Brian Harris not far behind (27:15), dropping over two minutes off his best 8k this season.
“It’s so exciting to see these guys pushing themselves in practice and then pulling it all together on race day. It is not just helping them drop times but it is pulling the rest of the team’s times down with them,” added Kurtz.
“We ended the first cross country regular season at Southeastern University on a very high note, I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish in the post season!”
Up next, the Fire race is The Sun Conference Championships on November 3.
