Cross Country Runs in Florida State Invitational

Tallahassee, Fla. - The Southeastern University men’s and women’s cross country teams faced their stiffest competition to day on Friday, running in the Florida State University Invitational.  The men finished in 16th place while the women finished in 18th place.

“The field of this meet consisted of primarily NCAA DI and DII teams and was a chance for our young program to see what we can become,” said Head Coach Paul Kurtz.  “Great competition can cause you to step up yourself and it did just that for our team today.  Rachael Bruce had a strong final 1000m to finish first for the Fire in a time of 26:59. Each of our ladies dug deep for their first 6k. Even more impressive to me was their 5k spit would have also been a personal best! Pretty impressive when you still have over a half mile to race.”

“Kyler Kathman led the men and continued to see his 8k time come down with a time of 28:21,” added Kurtz.  “He finished in 87th place. Just as the ladies saw personal best today, the men followed suit. They are really beginning to pull things together. We are seeing minutes drop off their previous race times, it is exciting to see!”

Up next, SEU cross country heads to Beaufort, S.C. to compete in the Sand Shark Invitational on October 20.
