Thomas Edges out the Fire

Box Score

Lakeland, Fla.- Southeastern University men’s soccer played Thomas University Saturday evening in the team’s first ever conference matchup against each other and Thomas came out on top with a final score of 2-1.

The first half saw both teams take multiple shots on goal, but neither team could make anything happen and the score remained tied at zero going into halftime.

The second half produced much more action than the first half did.  The scoring started ten minutes into the half when Thomas struck on a goal from Luciano Lorca.

Southeastern answered back ten minutes later when Stephen Eppinger tried to cross a ball and had it knocked down by a Thomas defender who was called for a hand ball in the box.  Austin Rogers stepped up for the penalty kick and sunk it in the back of the net to make the game 1-1.

Thomas answered back with their second goal off of a free kick when Steven Conway shot the ball low and goalie David Danahy got his hands on it but could not stop it from squeezing into the net.  The game remained 2-1 giving Thomas the win and the Fire their second tough loss of the week.

The Fire play again against Northwood University on September 26 at 3 pm.
