Volleyball Takes Two on Saturday
September 22, 2012

Lakeland, Fla. - The Southeastern University volleyball team rebounded well from a tough Friday night to take both matches on Saturday afternoon in the sportsplex.
The Fire beat Trinity College by scores of 27-25, 25-20, 22-25, and 26-24 in the opener before winning a five set thriller against Polk County rival Warner University by scores of 25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 24-26, and 15-12 to end the day.
Led by Allison Lewen and Taylor Dawson’s 16 kills apiece, the Fire cruised through the first two sets against Trinity. After a road bump in game three, the Fire finished off the Tigers in the fourth set to take the match.
Tara McSherley kept the Fire offense firing on all cylinders with an amazing 54 assists in the four set contest.
The second match of the day started off much like the first as the Fire took the opening two sets and looked to be on their way to an easy victory over the Royals.
From there, however, the intensity in the sportsplex grew as Warner battled back with every point feeling like a possible match point for both sides.
After Warner evened the match at two sets apiece the Royals and Fire went back and forth in the decisive fifth set with SEU finally pulling out the victory by the score of 15-12.
Lewen, Dawson, Christi Limpert, and Nicolette Sawicki all knocked down double figure kills while McSherley dished out another 41 assists.
With momentum on their side, the Fire head to West Palm Beach next Thursday to take on Palm Beach Atlantic at 7 pm.
