Volleyball Falls to No. 8 Embry-Riddle

Box Score

Daytona Beach, Fla. – The Southeastern University volleyball team dropped their Sun Conference opener on Friday night to No. 8 ranked Embry-Riddle University by scores of 25-21, 25-19, and 25-19.

The Fire played inspired volleyball to open up the first set as they looked to pull off the upset.  After a slow start which saw them fall behind 5-1, SEU stormed back to take a 12-11 lead.  From there, however, the Eagles went on a 7-1 run to take a commanding 18-13 lead.  The Fire had a run of their own in store to get within a point at 20-19 before ERAU finished the set off at 25-21.

Despite the relatively close score, the second set was all Embry-Riddle. After falling behind two sets to zero, the Fire would not go down without a fight as they pushed the Eagles in the third set, taking a 10-5 lead.  From that point, the Eagles slowly battled back and took the final set 25-19.

Allison Lewen led the Fire with 10 kills and an attack percentage of .261 while Tara McSherley paced the offense with 29 assists.  McSherley and Katie Trenski did their part to slow down the powerful Eagles’ attack with 11 and 12 digs respectively.

The Fire look to rebound on Saturday when they host a tri-match with Warner University and Trinity College.  SEU plays Trinity at 2pm and Warner at 4pm.
