Bee's Sting the Fire in Double OT

Box Score

Lakeland, Fla.- The Southeastern University men’s soccer team lost to Savannah College of Art & Design Thursday evening in double overtime by a score of 1-0.

The first half was a tug of war as each team pushed forward and put pressure on each other’s defenses. Each team had good looks at goal but they were unable to materialize any of them, and the score was tied at zero going into halftime.

The second half saw more of the same, the Fire put pressure on the Bee’s and continued to push forward but were unable to score. Stephen Eppinger had an excellent opportunity to score mid-way through the second half on a breakaway, but he was stopped by SCAD goalie John Brown.

As overtime started neither team could solve the others back line of defense, and the score would remain tied through the first overtime.

In the second overtime with three minutes left on the clock SCAD was awarded a free kick just outside the box. Richard Langthorne took the free kick and hit a rocket that was just out of the reach of Fire goalkeeper David Danahy, and that gave the Bee’s a 1-0 win.

The Fire will be back in action Saturday against conference opponent Thomas University in Lakeland.
