Alvarez, Casey Named Second Team All-Conference

FT. MYERS, Fla.--Southeastern seniors, Armando Alvarez and Shane Casey, were named Second Team All-Conference, Monday night, at The Sun Conference's annual conference tournament banquet.
Alvarez had a career year, hitting .331 with 46 hits, 11 doubles, and 19 RBIs, while making the All-Conference list at second base.
Casey, who was a First Team All-Conference selection in 2011, led the team in eight offensive categories; batting average (.380), hits (68), triples (4), RBIs (36), at bats (179), total bases (91), walks (39), and on base percentage (.484). Defensively, Casey did not commit an error in 54 games in centerfield, and his 12 outfield assists led the team.
St. Thomas' Joel Capote was named the league's Player of the Year after his outstanding season for the Bobcats. The STU centerfielder hit .406 in 2012, recording 78 hits, 39 RBIs and 58 runs scored. He also leads the conference with 37 stolen bases and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in the outfield.
For the second straight year and fourth time in five seasons, Embry-Riddle Head Coach Randy Stegall was named The Sun Conference Coach of the Year. Stegall led the Eagles to a 38-14 overall record and 21-6 mark in league play, claiming their fifth consecutive Sun Conference regular season title. The Eagles are ranked No. 6 in the latest NAIA Coaches' Top-25 Poll.
