Dunlap Receives Standing Ovation
The 2011-12 Men's Basketball team won the 2012 Team of the Year Award.
LAKELAND--Southeastern University celebrated the final week of the 2011-12 school year, by hosting a campus wide event called One Big Night. The celebration event began with an elegant banquet at Tuscana Ristorante, and then moved to Bush Chapel for a night of campus wide awards, while numerous athletic awards were celebrated.
The highlight of the night was when former Head Men's Basketball Coach John Dunlap, was named Coach of the Year, and received a warm standing ovation from the 600 faculty, staff, and students who were in attendance.
Athletics Director, Duane Aagaard, along with Sports Information Director, Evan Gibson, then presented Dunlap with a No. 11 jersey, representing the 11 years Dunlap coached at Southeastern. Dunlap announced his resignation earlier this month, and leaves Southeastern with 464-362 career record over 22 seasons.
Minutes after Dunlap was honored, the Fire Men's Basketball team took home the Team of the Year award, as they earned the program's first ever NAIA National Ranking this season, ending the year with a 19-14 record.
Fire men's basketball player, Malcolm Pollock, wom Male Athlete of the Year after he became the first player in program history to be named First Team All-Conference. Senior, Ashley Wilson, was named Female Athlete of the Year as she was a Second Team All-Conference player this year for the Lady Fire basketball team.
Best Single Game Performance was awarded to junior left-handed pitcher Dimitri Nunez. Nunez threw the second no-hitter in school history earlier this year versus Florida Christian College.
This year's President's Award was given to senior volleyball player Christine Dell, while Character Athlete of the Year went to both Andy Osborn (Men's Soccer) and Arthur Jackson (Men's Basketball).
