WIU Uses Three First Half Goals to Put Out Lady Fire
BABSON PARK, Fla.--Southeastern University dropped their final regular season match of the year, losing to fellow Polk County school Webber International University, 4-1, Wednesday evening.
The Lady Warriors built a 2-0 lead just 20 minutes into regulation. Amanda Solis scored from Magen Carey at 12:48. Solis then returned the favor to Carey just minutes later to give the Lady Warriors a nice early cushion.
Southeastern scored their only goal of the game at 29:45 of the first half. Freshman, Suzy Bondy, scored from Ally Larese and Sophia Eplin.
Webber extended their lead to 3-1 right before the half, as Brittany Cox scored off of a deflection on a kick by Jessica Morejon.
Carey scored her second goal of the match at 70:46. It was an unassisted goal and the only goal of the second half.
Webber outshot Southeastern, 20-13, for the match. WIU goal keeper, Sam Keller, made six saves in the match.
WIU ends their season with a 8-10 overall record and a 4-6 conference mark.
Southeastern is now 6-9 overall and finishes the conference regular season with a 5-5 record. SEU will be the No. 5 overall seed in the upcoming Sun Conference Tournament, earning their first conference tournament berth in program history. SEU will take on No. 4 seed, St. Thomas University, in the conference quarterfinals next Thursday, in Miami.
Northwood University earned the tournament's No. 1 overall seed, followed by Embry-Riddle at No. 2. SCAD will be the No. 3 seed overall, while Warner University grabbed the No. 6 seed.
