SEU Improves Overall Record to 5-5, and Moves to 4-1 Within Conference
AVE MARIA, Fla.--The Southeastern Lady Fire soccer team improved to 4-1 within The Sun Conference, Wednesday night, with a 2-1 victory over Ave Maria University.
Southeastern scored two first half goals to take a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
Sophomore, Jessica Crowe, scored her seventh goal of the season late in the first half, as Ally Larese and Kelsey Anthony assisted on the play.
Then, Larese scored what would eventually be the game winning goal, just two minutes after Crowe found the back of the net. Freshman, Suzy Bondy, had the assist on Larese's second goal of the year.
Ave Maria's Grace O'Reilly scored at 69:29 of the second half to make the score, 2-1.
The Lady Fire defense held the Lady Gyrenes to nine total shots, while goal keeper Karleigh Smoak made three saves for SEU.
The victory helps put SEU in the thick of things, in regards to solidifying a conference tournament berth. With a 4-1 record, and holding a tie-breaker over Warner University, Southeastern holds their own fate in their hands. The Lady Fire still has important conference games with SCAD, Embry-Riddle, Webber, and Florida Memorial remaining. Only the top six teams advance to the conference tournament, and Southeastern is still looking for their first ever berth since joining the conference back in 2009.
