PBA's Harnes Scores With No Time Remaining in Regulation
LAKELAND, Fla.--Southeastern University lost a tough 1-0 game to NCAA D-II Palm Beach Atlantic University, Thursday night, in front of 300 rowdy Southeastern fans at the SEU Soccer Complex.
PBA's Karoline Harnes scored a goal with no time remaining on the clock off of a crossing pass from Marianne Harnes for the only goal of the game.
The Southeastern bench argued that there was no time on the clock, but no horn was sounded to indicate that the game was over, so the head official allowed the goal to stand.
The game appeared destined for overtime, as both teams found it hard to find any offense.
Southeastern (2-3, 1-1) managed just five shots on goal while the Lady Sailfish finished with six shots on goal.
Allison Fox pitched the shutout for Palm Beach Atlantic, ending her night with five saves. Fox's counterpart, Karleigh Smoak, also made five saves in the game.
The Lady Fire's best chance to score in the game came midway through the second half, when Jessica Crowe found the ball off of a crossing pass about 10-yards away from PBA's net. But, under closing pressure, Crowe rushed her shot and fired it right at Fox who made the save.
Southeastern's next three games will be conference road games, starting next Thursday afternoon in Babson Park, Fla., versus Webber International University. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
